Surgical Oncology

The recent report published by the World Health Organization, Cancer will be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide with approximately 15 million new cases and 8.2 million cancer deaths in 2012. The no. of new cases are expected to rise by about 70% over the next decades. As per Indian population data the ratio of mortality due to Cancer is high and alarming. Cancer is the second most common disease in India responsible for maximum mortality with about 3 Lakhs deaths per year. The world Cancer day theme of “Not Beyond Us” with message of achieving treatment for all. “We can I can” with message to build a quality cancer work force. Yenepoya University envisages playing a leadership role in the process of organising oncological services in this geographical region. Thus envisaging developing oncology to amalgamate clinical skills, teaching and research with the start of Post doctoral training in Surgical Oncology.

Infrastructure and Equipments:
The department has full fledged equipments required to train the M.Ch students - Diagnostic facilities like good pathology Lab with Onco Pathologist - Colonoscope, Upper GI Endoscope - 03 modular well equipped operation theatres with facility to operate all major surgeries . - 3D Laparoscopy Unit - Da - vinci Robo for Robotic thoracic and abdominal procedures
